Here I am, sat reminiscing about Tuesday night with my birthday cards and pressies all around the room (I'm 38 today), one of my fave pressies being a Take That diary. Anyway, let's get cracking with my review. Are you sitting comfortably, then I shall begin...Well, where do I start, the story begins on Friday, 2nd March, the day the tickets went on sale. After booking the day off work to try and bag some tickets, before 9am I quickly had a brew, switched on GMTV where TT fans were queuing for tickets, then 9am came - Bam - the Ticketmaster site crashed straight away! Nightmare. Couldn't get tickets anywhere, then the announcement on Radio 1 to say more were released, still didn't get any! Disappointment wasn't the word to describe how I felt. The weekend that followed consisted of me sat at the computer trying desperately to get tickets, even resorting to Ebay, but didn't pay their ridiculous prices. Eventually my hard work paid off and I managed to get 2 tickets from Ticketmaster ... unbelievable.
Then the countdown to the big day began ... months went by, then the tickets finally arrived, then it was here ... Tuesday, 18th December! After getting off the train in Piccadilly Station, we got on the Metro tram and got off at the Victoria stop, near to the MEN. We knew it was near 'cos there was a stall with all the cheesy merchandise in front of us - flashing bunny ears, fur trimmed cowboy hats, the works! Then eyes right, there was the big yellow sign for the MEN Arena - Bingo! We had to wait 5 minutes for the doors to open, it was bloody freezing too, but then 6pm we were in!
1st stop merchandise stall, then we were escorted to our seats by one of the MEN staff - a lovely bloke who reminded me of Peter Kay in his bright yellow blazer. He said "come on, I'll show you to your rubbish seats". Rubbish seats my arse! When he showed me our seats I nearly passed out! Then the lights dimmed and Jay Scott and his band took to the stage. What beautiful songs he sang and what a lovely husky voice!
Next, a quick loo break before SEB (my bladder isn't what it used to be). We made our way back to our seats and enjoyed Sophie's set, she really got the crowd going.
Our pre-Take That warm up was great, old kids TV shows shown on the screen, Ride on Time by Black Box was being played & Push It by Salt n Pepa, everyone was joining in with the Mexican waves, brilliant atmosphere (apart from a woman in front of us that looked round and glared at us every time we raised our voices a little) The noise we were making was nothing compared with what was to come once the lads appeared on stage. I'd paid a lot of money and come a long way to see TT and no-one, repeat no-one was gonna stop me enjoying this night!
The arena was full to the brim with Thatters of all ages, eagerly awaiting the main attraction on stage - TAKE THAT!
Then, the lights went dim, the screaming was at an all time high, as Lloyd (what a voice!) and the musicians took their place on the B Stage. I turned around to see the screen come alight with images of stars and the earth flying towards me, wonderful effects. Then the main men appeared as if by magic - what a sight to behold when Gary, Howard, Mark and Jason were stood at podiums (sorry, not sure what they're called), giving us a wonderful opening number 'Reach Out'. They looked the business in their grey suits, beautiful.
Then, just when you thought it couldn't get any better, Howard and Jason pole dancing "bow chicka wow wow" My eyes were fixated on Howard ... sorry he's my favourite! What a lucky lady Mrs Barlow is too, married to Gary and lapdancing for Howard! If you ever need an understudy Dawn, please give me a call, just give me a few weeks to go on your Gary's diet to get into your skimpy costume! (I can dream can't I eh?!)
Patience was one of the highlights of the night for me, seeing the lads stood in front of me behind microphone stands, beautiful. For me, it's the simplicity of the 4 of them singing with real emotion the wonderful lyrics that we all know and love. Personally I love this part of the show, pure and simple, nothing else compares to this.
Then my other highlight, Howard back to full health singing Beautiful World - your voice is beautiful Howard and you are beautiful too. He said it was an honour to be singing the title track, you did yourself proud love, let me tell you.
Various other songs followed in a blur, until Rule the World started ... what a truly magical part of the show. CIBM was wonderful too, Gary on the white piano with 'swan girls' throwing white tape from the 'halo' above ... I shoved a big handful of this in my pocket as a TT memento. Then we had the 'singalong-a-Take-That' on the B Stage. The audience singing along with them in unison like one big happy family, it's amazing, thoroughly enjoyable. After Everything Changes, it was time for the walk-through ... my niece passed Howard my silver bag with presents for the lads and he said "cheers love, thanks", I'm so glad he got my 4 pressies I'd carried all the way from Rotherham (hope you liked the chocolate lads!). Then it was Mark's turn, he kissed my niece and hugged her, lucky swine! I couldn't get out into the aisle, so it was her moment I suppose, not mine.
Then Jason stood in front of a captivated audience and gave us an amazing rendition of Wooden Boat, he has a beautiful voice and got a massive cheer from the audience. Afterwards, Jason tried to talk above all the ear-piercing screams and said "Is Monday the new Saturday night?" to which we all replied "It's Tuesday" Bless him, he's like me at a TT concert, doesn't know what day of the week it is! Eventually he uttered the words "sometimes we don't know what we're waiting for, that's the time to be the first one ON THE DANCEFLOOR".... GGF was well underway with Howard on the decks - what a vision of loveliness in his black/orange hoody! Then the 'climax' to the song when they all drop to their knees... Boom..... crawl, boom.... crawl, the crowd goes absolutely mental, including me! We tried to ignore the woman in front of us giving us the evil eye 'cos we were wolf whistling and screaming - loosen up woman, you're at a Take That concert remember! Us Yorkshire lasses have got to get it off our chests!
After many other songs, we were treated to the amazing 'Never Forget', my Take That anthem, with my fave Howard (have I mentioned that before?!) on lead vocals. I bet that routine took some practicing didn't it lads? - it was awesome. Then Peter Kay's face was flashed up on the big screens and everyone gave an enormous cheer, he looked so shocked. We all know how much he loves Take That and it was great to see him there enjoying himself.
Then the encore ... Shine. Wow, what a performance from Mark, he gave it his all, thanks for an amazing rendition.
The lads then said that seeing as it was near Christmas, they'd sing us something and they began to sing Silent Night. I started welling up straight away I felt so glad to have been given this Christmas treat. Thanks so much lads for this. I also enjoyed Howard giggling half way through the song, think he didn't know all the words!
Then the finale of the show, Pray ... Gary belted out "I'm so cold and all alone", which he definitely was not alone with thousands of Thatters singing along and holding onto his every word.
Thanks to Howard, Mark, Gary and Jason for an amazing night, you always do us proud. You never cease to amaze me with your dynamic shows, fantastic dancing and all the trimmings that go along with it. Tuesday was the best early birthday and Christmas present I've ever had all rolled into one fantastic package!
As Howard once said in an interview with a Tokyo Radio Station that we could expect "Magic, pure magic" on this tour, well he was right. I just hope that Gary didn't suffer from wind on the tour like he did on that interview. Sorry Gary.
Thanks to everyone involved in staging the tour, both on stage and off - you all deserve a round of applause.
Do Take That rule the world?.... well, they definitely do in my eyes. Never forget? - I definitely will not. Thanks once again for a truly amazing night and happy memories that I will treasure forever.
