Monday 10th December was the most agonising day of my life, my flatmate was seeing Take That 5 days before me! That night was awful, she was seeing MY band, and I had to wait almost a week before I could see what I knew would be the most amazing show ever.
I had previously told her NOT to tell me ANYTHING about the show. I had waited long enough by resisting the temptations of Youtube. I wouldn't even allow myself to read the reviews on this website! I wanted a surprise.
The day after my friend saw the greatest band on the earth, the only question I asked was 'Is it as great as I'm expecting?' Her reply? 'I didn't think they could get any better than the Ultimate tour, I was wrong'
WOW!
This was surely going to be something spectacular, I couldn't wait. I had made myself a Take That Countdown for my wall. I was like a child at Christmas, crossing off the days, playing their albums non-stop, wondering what they would be doing on the tour.
Finally, Saturday 15th December arrived. I woke up and screamed, ran around my flat, and put Take That on straight away. My friend arrived at my house about 3pm and we made our way to Manchester, playing what else but Beautiful World!
When we arrived at the MEN, we were in enough time to see both the support acts. There were butterflies going around my stomach, I thought I was going to explode!
Here it was...at last...the lights went down...my heart was racing....there were people on the 'B' stage in front of me...a musician...dancers...but no Take That.
My eyes turned to the main stage, there were 4 lecterns there, would Take That appear there? YES! With Reach Out, they were on the stage, and I could see them. This was it. MY band were in front of me again. Let the show begin.
The first 3 numbers whizzed around me, with their amazing routines, and creative performances. I was left wondering how on earth they continue to think of these ideas.
There was an amazing mix of the old songs and the new. The beautiful ballads of 'Hold On', and 'I'd Wait For Life', nearly had me in tears, which were in contrast to 'Shine' and my favourite ever Take That song 'Everything Changes'.
Without question or doubt 'Rule the World' was the best number. The amazing lighting, beautiful dancing, and the ultimate - the walk over the bridge to the 'B' stage, which was right in front of me, as I was in block 113. The last time I saw them in the MEN I was in the upper tier right at the back, in comparison I was practically on the stage.
Take That then tested the audience with the classics of 'Do what you like' and 'Come on, come on come on take that and party'. The MEN was bouncing, the atmosphere was indescribable. Take That fever was well and truly here.
Back for good was amazing, the house lights came on and there was a sea of hands in the air swaying, singing, and remembering.
Soon it was time for the boys to go back to the main stage, back again through the audience like their last tour. What I wouldn't do to be down there so I could kiss them!
Relight My Fire, every tour a new slant is put on it, without Lou-Lou there how would they do her bit? Would they have another singer doing it? Would she in fact be there as a surprise? Well, what do you know? Crazy by Gnarls Barkley, fits incredibly well into Relight My Fire. Another spark of brilliance, and it just shows Take That + the 21st century music=brilliance.
Never Forget was truly fantastic. I was staring at the screen and the boys and almost forgot to put my hands in the air for the ritual of 'NEVER FORGET' That was a brilliant idea, how do they come up with it?? To have a screen at the back that the boys ran in and out of, whilst walking on a treadmill. Who would have thought a spaceman, Charlie Chaplin and Take That would be on the same stage?
I feel that I have used every single superlative to describe this concert so far, but there is so much more to say. Give Good Feeling was a superb remix, of a great song. Howard's mixing was of course spot on, followed by fantastic dancing, a fantastic set, and fantastic routine. Take That, how do you keep doing it??
Shine, Shine Shine!!! Without question or doubt my favourite song from their new album. It's classic Take That, but is still in keeping with the sound of 2007. This was their penultimate song, and WOW. Mark was fantastic on vocals, Gary, Howard and Jason amazing backing, and a sexy routine.
How on earth could they top last year's finale? And what were they going to sing? My prediction of Shine had just been sung and the favourites of Never Forget and Back For Good, had been done half way through the show.
Well, what could be the most appropriate song to finish the night with? PRAY!!! Their first number one, WOW. Absolutely brilliant. Taking it back to basics, what they are about, fun, music and making women screeeeaaaammmmm.
All I want to say is 'thank you Take That' I feel like an 8 year old girl again when you're on the telly. I hope you make another amazing album, go on another incredible tour, and carry on making people's lives better for just being...well YOU!!
