My review of last nights show starts over 12 years ago, when Take That were on their last European tour before Robbie left and they later split up. All my friends were going to Frankfurt to see the concert. But I, being 16 years old at that time, wasn't allowed to go. You can certainly understand how upset and sad I was, when they split up a year later and I had missed my last chance to see them in concert. The years went on and I still listened to their music and somehow never lost hope they would come back one day. And finally that day came!!!
And then the day of my first TT concert was finally there and three girls set off to Stuttgart.
We arrived around 4.30 pm at the venue and found about 100-150 people queuing at the entrance. We had seats so there was no need for us to stand in line and so we decided to find a place to get something to eat. We came back to the hall around 6.45 pm and got in quickly. Our seats were great. We had a good view on the stage and the b-stage was right in front of us! And then the waiting started! During the support act my stomach, which had bothered me the whole day, became worse and I felt really sick. I couldn't believe this was really happening and finally my dream of seeing Take That live for the first time in my life had come true. Fortunately my stomach calmed down when the lads appeared on stage. I was totally overwhelmed seeing them standing behind their podiums and singing Reach out. I couldn't decide where to look, the screens or to the stage. It was a sad feeling seeing the left podium, which was on our side, empty. But I still had hope that Howard would appear on stage, to do one or two songs with them.
After It only takes a minute the lads talked to the crowd and then Howard appeared on stage?much to our disappointment, in clothes! He greeted us and told us in very good German, that he could not perform, because his insurance wouldn't allow it. He continued in English that he felt fit to participate and that he had gotten his stitches out today. You could see that he really was disappointed about the fact he wasn't allowed to perform. The crowd went wild and when Howard left the stage Jason said something like "Say good bye to Mr. Robbie Williams?." He corrected himself immediately but everybody laughed at his "mistake".
Then it was time for Patience, which is one of my favourite songs and it was so awesome to finally hear it live.
Then it was Marks turn with Hold on and although it is not one of my favourite songs on the album, I really enjoyed it and Mark's voice sounded great!!
Then the first notes of I'd wait for life filled the room and the crowd recognised it immediately. It was an amazing feeling to see Gary at his piano, singing this beautiful song.
Relight my fire was a spectacle. Again I could not decide where to look first. Although I knew the lads would set themselves on fire, I gasped when I saw Jason's foot in flames.
Rule the world was next and I have no words describing how much I love that song. The smoke and the green lasers helped this song to be even more magical then it already is. Some girls standing front row at the b-stage had beach balls with them, which looked like globes and they threw one on stage to Jason.
During the last sounds of Rule the world the white piano appeared on the b-stage and Gary started playing Could it be magic. And to me it was like magic and one of the most touching moments of the show. I totally fell in love with this version of the song. But it went by so quickly and the lads started talking to the crowd again and wanted to know if we still knew the songs from the album Take That and Party. And we did!!!
Afterwards it was time for Back for good and the whole crowd sang along to it. Another moment I will never forget.
Before they started Everything changes Mark wanted to know, if we still knew the name of their second album, but somehow he made a mistake and said the name himself. He was on our side of the stage and we could see him laugh about himself that moment.
Gary left the stage during that song and then I really wished we would have had standing tickets and I could be there first row to get a chance to touch him once.
Then they left the b-stage again and it was time for Jay's big moment. He took off his shoes and socks and started to sing Wooden Boat. You really could see that he was nervous and he had his eyes closed all the time. It was wonderful and I really like this song and think it fits perfectly for Jason.
The change from the gentle Wooden Boat to the beats of Give good feeling, which I could feel heavily in my stomach, was amazing. We had left our seats long ago and were dancing and singing along and really had a wonderful time. Sure, which I normally would not call one of my favourites, was great and we danced and sang along to every minute of it.
The lights went dark after that and you could see someone walking on stage with a flashlight, searching for something. I'm not sure, but I think it was Lloyd Wade, pretending to be the caretaker. It was funny when he suddenly "found" the rope to put the screens for Never Forget in place. It was sad seeing Howard on the screen and knowing he would not appear on stage again. Gary asked for our help to sing the song, but he did not need it. He sang it beautifully and the whole place clapped and sang along. It was such an amazing feeling to look around and see all those people with their hands in the air, singing, dancing and just having a great time.
But also this moment went by much too soon and the boys and dancers came to the front of the stage to say their good byes.
Shine followed and it was just brilliant. I really like this song; I always have to smile when I hear it.
The last song, Pray, was wonderful and the crowd sang along once again. But way too early the last tone was sung and the lights went out entirely. I sadly realised it was over.
I had the best time and those two hours felt like minutes in which I went through all sorts of emotions.
My thanks for this amazing night go to Gary, Howard, Jason and Mark for giving my hopes a happy ending.
And I also want to thank my two lovely girlfriends, Astrid and Bettina, for sharing the day, my dream became reality!!!
